Stay for the Summer

Out Now

“Stay for the Summer” is the third single from emerging Tucson indie rock band Daytrails, combining pop and rock influences into one sleek, melodic package. With uptempo electric guitars, a groovy bassline, and a catchy melody, there’s no doubt that “Stay for the Summer” is an earworm even after the first listen. Dynamic changes and the rocking outro only add to its relisten value, drawing the listener back again and again.

The lyrics are complimentary to the already-memorable music, outlining a simple story of meeting the perfect “sunshine girl,” only to find out she will be leaving the next morning. During a playful, carefree night out in the town, the narrator can only ask: why doesn’t she stay for the summer?

Bio

Daytrails is a Tucson indie rock band formed in the summer of 2021. Inspired by a healthy blend of rock and the desert landscape around them, Daytrails spans multiple musical sounds encompassing modern indie, alternative, and surf. Even across these various styles, their persuasive songwriting and resonating melodies remain constant.

Daytrails is led by singer/songwriter David Cantillo (vocals, rhythm guitar), with his roommate and best friend James Linskey supplying a punchy foundation on drums. Brothers David New (lead guitar) and Luke New (bass) help create the rich, multi-layered sound that Daytrails is known for.

Daytrails has always been rooted in the culture of Tucson, Arizona and the surrounding desert world. Lead singer David Cantillo will be continuing his education at the University of Arizona, pursuing a Ph.D. in Planetary Sciences and studying potentially hazardous near-Earth asteroids. Drummer James Linksey plans on becoming a Doctor of Medicine at UArizona and hopes to use his knowledge of Spanish to better assist underserved areas near the U.S-Mexico border. David and Luke New grew up in Tucson and love contributing to the vibrant culture of their home town.
