Daytrails is a Tucson indie rock band formed in the summer of 2021. Taking inspiration from the desert landscape around them, Daytrails is known for their melodic songwriting and emotional connection to the listener. From their pop-rock single, "Stay for the Summer," to the surf rock sunshine of "Tucson Tide," Daytrails can only be defined by their vibrant variety of captivating sound.
Daytrails began with founding members David Cantillo (vocals, guitar) and James Linskey (drums) meeting as freshman year roommates at the University of Arizona. After being a part of various projects throughout college, they were inspired by the recent surge of surf rock and decided to start their own group. That summer, they met David New (lead guitar) and Luke New (bass), two brothers from Salem, Oregon who had just moved back to their Tucson home. Over the fall, Daytrails quickly gained momentum with house shows and events at the University of Arizona. In September of 2021, Daytrails released their first single, "Mystify," start kickstarted their musical journey. In early 2023, Daytrails welcomed bassist Dylan Stanton, a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter known for his other musical project, Midnight Milestones.
Daytrails has always been rooted in the culture of Tucson, Arizona and the surrounding desert world. Lead singer David Cantillo is continuing his education at the University of Arizona, pursuing a Ph.D. in Planetary Sciences and studying potentially hazardous near-Earth asteroids. Drummer James Linksey also plans on becoming a Doctor of Medicine at UArizona and hopes to use his knowledge of Spanish to better assist underserved areas near the U.S-Mexico border. Both David New and Dylan Stanton have been involved in various Tucson music projects and add an integral perspective to the band's developing sound. This summer, Daytrails plans on releasing even more music, adding to their ongoing discography.
